A Special Birthday in June

June is wrapping up, and it has been such a fun month in our household!  Lydia celebrated her birthday on June 18, and it is amazing to us that she is already one year old.  What a sweet treasure she is in our lives, and we truly cherish the little blessing she is to our family.  Her favorites lately are pushing her walker, eating French toast and pulling my dish towels of the oven door and then laughing to herself as she looks to see if I noticed.  She loves to have books read to her, but still likes to turn the pages on her own timing.  Swinging is another favorite activity of Lydia's, and she doesn't seem to mind much if it slows down while I go check on the garden or get a load of laundry off the clothes line :)

Our garden continues to keep us busy as the sugar snap peas and green beans are coming faster than we can eat them.  We've already gotten a few banana peppers, and the rest are coming.  The apple trees are hanging full of little green apples, so this fall there will be some long hours making applesauce!  (You're coming to help, right Grandma VW?)  Grandpa's corn is already tall enough for Dan to get lost in, and continues to grow by the day with all the rain we've had this month, over 6 inches total.

My pregnancy is continuing to go well, and everything has been checking out good at my doctor appointments.  I'm making some good progress on a baby quilt for our little girl!  We're so excited to meet this little peanut in September :)

New Blooms in May

Although we've had plenty of cool, rainy days, summer is just around the corner!  May was a busy month of planting and transplanting as we spent many hours in the garden and landscaping around the house.  We enjoyed getting our bikes out on Memorial Day, and Lydia survived her first ride in the trailer!  Although she is not a fan of wearing a helmet :)

My expanding mid-section is a good sign of our baby's growth, and so are the strong kicks I feel!  So far this pregnancy has felt quite similar to when I was pregnant with Lydia.  Taking care of Lydia isn't quite as easy, especially when it comes to carrying her in her car seat or carrying her up the steps.  I'm much more quick to pass her off to Dan these days :)

Lydia is loving life!  She enjoys standing by the window looking outside, and continues to love stroller rides and swinging.  Asparagus continues to be a staple, and now that she is getting more teeth she likes eating small pieces of meat.  She loves to eat and very rarely will refuse a new food.

Unloading the bikes at the trail.  Dan did a great job building a bike rack to hold both our bikes and the trailer.

The dreaded helmet!

Reading to take off!

Waving bye-bye to Daddy!

Sharing a bowl of ice cream.  Lydia looks like she's keeping close track of how many bites Daddy gets and how many she gets :)

I'll let you guess who Lydia's hairstylist was on this day.  He was fired shortly after this picture.

She loves putting various things in that little cup.
